Could EMTs Have Saved Tyre Nichols, TN Man Beaten by Police?

As Memphis reels from the fallout of the death of a man who was beaten while in police custody, video of the beating has raised the question of whether EMTs did enough to respond to the man’s injuries.

Video shows not only the arrest and beating of 29-year-old Tyre Nichols on Jan.7 , but also the aftermath when he waited handcuffed on the ground for an ambulance to transport him to the hospital.

WREG reports it has interviewed a firefighter who declared the treatment Nichols received did not meet the standard of care.

In the videos that were released on Friday, Nichols is heard groaning and falling over several times while handcuffed. At times he is left on the ground with no one assisting him.

Two members of the Memphis Fire Department have been suspended while it conducts an investigation into the matter.
