Master Fireman Michael Curry served with the Savannah Fire Department for more than a decade but those who knew him best respected and loved him for more than just his uniform.

“He loved to help people and being a firefighter was the perfect position for him because he was a servant,” neighbor Mickey Minick said.

Curry died Saturday of a medical episode while rescuing those who had fallen into the Savannah River after a dock collapsed.
