Cambridge (MA) Firefighters Discuss Rescue in Triple-Decker Fire

Cambridge firefighters had to assist a man get out of his third floor apartment via a ladder early Wednesday morning during a fire in his triple-decker home.

The call to the house on River Street came in around 12:30 a.m. about a fire behind a kitchen dishwasher in the building.

By the time firefighters arrived, the second floor was showing heavy smoke, and a 24-year-old man was partially hanging out of a third floor window calling for help.

Firefighters brought a ladder to the window and Firefighter Aaron Young climbed up to guide the man down. The victim was suffering from smoke inhalation and was disoriented and upset when Young reached him and helped him get on the ladder.

“It’s something to look back on and say, I made a difference,” Young told NBC 10 Boston.
