California Firefighter Killed in Apparatus Crash

LOMPOC, California — A firefighter was killed and another injured when the apparatus they were riding in overturned near Lompoc.

KSBY reports that the crash occurred as the firefighters were headed to the Canyon Fire, according to California Highway Patrol. The tanker hit a roundabout for unknown reasons on Highway 246 and Purisima Road at 6:20 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The passenger was killed and the driver reportedly suffered minor injuries, according to CHP.

A special investigations team from San Luis Obispo County was requested to the scene. The names of the firefighters have not yet been released as officials work to notify next of kin.
