
One firefighter dead in Porterville fire

PORTERVILLE, California — One firefighter is dead and another unaccounted for during a fire in a city library.
KFSN and KGET report that a Porterville firefighter was killed during a fire in the Porterville City Library.
Another firefighter is listed as “unaccounted for.”
Firefighters from several departments responded to the fire at 4:14 p.m. on Tuesday.
The Visalia Times Delta reports that the library was occupied at the time of the fire and that people were evacuating when firefighters arrived.
The structure was built in 1953 and did not have sprinklers.
Tulare County Fire Chief Charlies Norman said that the names of the two firefighters have not been released. Both worked for Porterville.
Chief Norman said that they hope to recover the missing firefighter when it is safe to operate inside the building.
