

33-year old died in accident at Pfeiffer Burns State Park

SAN MATEO COUNTY, California – CAL FIRE San Mateo — Santa Cruz Unit announced the death of Captain David William Lutz, 33, in an off-duty hiking accident at Pfeiffer Burns State Park near Big Sur.
Captain Lutz was born in Los Gatos and raised in Corralitos, just north of Watsonville. He attended the Monterey Fire Academy and began his career as a volunteer firefighter with the Corralitos CAL FIRE station.
Captain Lutz began his career in 2008 as a Fire Fighter I in the San Mateo-Santa Cruz Unit. He most recently was stationed at the El Granada Station within the Half Moon Bay-based Coastside Fire Protection District.
He was known for his deep faith and was bold and eager to live all kinds of adventures.
He is survived by his wife Tisha Lutz, step-daughter Alyssa, and young children Bailey, Caleb, and baby Hope (due any time); his parents Michael and Mary Anne Lutz; siblings Leah Lutz, Joshua Lutz (Stephanie) Erin (Lutz) Adams (Scott), Krista (Lutz) Sobrak-Seaton (Nick), Anna (Lutz) Anton (Willy), Daniel Lutz (De)Matthew Lutz, Elizabeth Lutz, and Jacob Lutz; and his nieces and nephews.
