Buffalo Gap (TX) Volunteer Firefighter Denied Leave for Neck Surgery Caused by Ladder Fall

Firefighter Joe Palmour injured his neck at a 2018 fire when he fell from his ladder while checking an attic for hot spots after a house fire.

Palmour, a 20-year veteran of the department, landed on his air tank and broke several vertebrae in his neck, which required surgery to fix.

Now the injury requires a second surgery, however, and Palmour has been denied paid leave from his job with the municipal Buffalo Gap Water Department.

That will leave him without income for the three month recovery. The City Council said it has no money in the budget to provide paid leave, so a friend set up an online fundraiser to help Palmour with expenses.

You can visit that fundraiser here.
