BOSTON — Boston 25 News reports that at least five firefighters were injured while battling a seven-alarm fire in South Boston.

The fire, which involved seven buildings on Columbia Road, began at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Three were burned and two suffered heat-related injuries.

Boston Fire Department Commissioner Jack Dempsey told Boston 25 that the hurt firefighters are expected to be okay.

Commissioner Dempsey said they had heavy fire in the ceiling and tried to do an aggressive interior attack first.

Officials believe the fire began in the back of one of the buildings before spreading.
