BOSTON — Boston Fire Commissioner Joseph Finn has announced that after 36 years with the fire department he will retire.

WBUR reports that Finn made his announcement on his Twitter page and will retire on March 12.

Finn has held every rank in the department.

During his leadership the Boston Fire Department had a renewed focus on firefighter cancer rates.

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh thanked Finn for his years as a firefighter and leader and said that a successor will be announced in the coming days.
