Birmingham Firefighters Injured in Roof Collapse

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama — Three firefighters were injured in a roof collapse while fighting a house fire Tuesday evening.

AL.com reports Birmingham Fire Rescue Service responded to a house fire in the 3800 block of Norwood Boulevard at 8:18 p.m.

Battalion Chief Sebastian Carrillo told AL.com that heavy fire was showing from the house when firefighters arrived.

A second-alarm was called to bring more firefighters to the scene.

An hour into fireground operations firefighters tried to gain entry inside from the rear of the structure. The roof collapsed and injured three firefighters on the outside.

The three injured firefighters were taken to UAB Hospital.

All three are listed in stable condition with minor injuries.

The fire was brought under control at 11:00 p.m.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
