Balko (OK) Firefighter Dies from Burns Suffered in April Tanker Rollover

Balko Firefighter Jason Smith, who was inside a water tanker that flipped over at a wildfire in April, has died of his injuries.

Smith and Firefighter Tyler Morris were in the tanker when it when it rolled down an embankment, landing on its top in a fire in Beaver County.

The ground around the truck was charred. First responders got Smith out of the truck, despite zero visibility caused by the fire, but he and Morris were badly burned.

Smith was taken to a burn unit in Texas and allowed to go home a few weeks later. Authorities announced over the weekend that he has since died.
