Angel (NM) Chief Dismissed for Giving Beer to 18-Year-Old Firefighter

The Angel Town Council has voted to fire its fire chief and an 18-year-old firefighter for an incident in which the chief gave the young man beer to drink.

The incident occurred at a conference and the chief was accused of offering the young man a beer in his hotel room and buying him a beer at a restaurant.

The chief acknowledged he did provide the beer, but said it was not intentional. He simply lost track of who was having beer in the group.

The young firefighter raised the issue with the town’s human resources director. The council fired the chief and the firefighter involved saying the chief should have paid closer attention to who was drinking and the young firefighter should not have accepted beer, knowing he was under age.
