AL Fire Chief’s Credentials Probed in Criminal Investigation

The Alabama Attorney General’s Office is investigating the credentials of Grand Bay’s former fire chief.

NBC 15 reports the investigation follows on the department’s removal of the chief from his position last year shortly after he was appointed.

Chief Richard Firth was appointed chief in April and then removed in May. He was removed after the Grand Bay Fire Board began to suspect firefighting and safety certifications he supplied during his hiring were bogus.

The Attorney General’s office told the fire board it is investigating the matter as a possible case of possession of fraudulent instruments.
