Airbus Tests Kit to Convert A400M Aircraft for Temporary Firefighting Service

Airbus has carried out tests on its A400M aircraft that allowed the company to convert it to firefighting service using an insert that can then be removed.

The roll-on, roll-off module would allow the aircraft to be used without modification and the converted back for regular use when not needed for firefighting.

The goal of the project would be creating a new source of firefighting aircraft that would be cheaper than building new, dedicated planes for the job.

In the test, the A400M dropped 20 tons of water in ten seconds at a height of 150 feet.
