19 Kids, Two Teachers Killed in Texas Elementary School Shooting, 13 Others Injured

An 18-year-old gunman entered an Uvalde elementary school this morning and killed 19 children and two teachers. The gunman is dead, as well.

The report came in to first responders at about 11:43 a.m. from the Robb Elementary school of the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District, which was placed under lockdown. Police and EMS responded to the scene.

Salvador Ramos, 18, of Uvalde was identified as the shooter. Ramos was a student at the town’s high school. It’s believed he shot and killed his grandmother at home before leaving for the school. Police responding to the school entered the building and shot and killed Ramos, putting an end to his attack.

Uvalde, a close-knit, largely Latino community is in mourning. Uvalde is about 85 miles (135 kilometers) west of San Antonio.
