SCHERTZ, Texas — A fire department ladder truck is now out of service after having been struck by a tractor-trailer while protecting firefighters and other first responders working on a roadway.

KSAT reports that the Schertz Fire Department’s ladder truck was being used to protect crews working at the scene of an earlier crash on Wednesday morning on I-35.

Witnesses told police that it appeared the driver of the tractor-trailer was in a hurry before he struck the fire truck, ripping off a door and half of the bucket section from the ladder.

Schertz Fire Department Battalion Chief John Perry says it’s unknown if the truck will be replaced.

The fire department has another ladder truck to use in conjunction with mutual aid agreements with neighboring departments.
