Watch: Dog Starts MO Kitchen Fire

A Parkville dog set off a grease fire on a stovetop when it accidentally turned on a burner that was under a pan on the stove.

Security video shows the dog jump up to the stove, attracted by a pan that had grease in it. The grease in the pan ignited, Chris Denney, division chief at the Southern Platte Fire Protection District, told USA Today.

Denney said the fire served as a reminder to use built-in safety lockouts on push button stove controls to prevent accidental ignition.

The fire happened June 10 and caused extensive damage to the kitchen. Firefighters were able to rescue the two dogs form the house.
