Former Walden (NY) Firefighter First U.S. Casualty in Ukraine

U.S. citizen Willy Joseph Cancel, 22, was killed in Ukraine while fighting alongside Ukrainian forces.

Cancel had moved to Tennessee where he worked as a corrections officer. Before that, he served in the United States Marine Corps and volunteered for the Walden Fire Department.

Cancel’s mother, Rebecca Cabrera, told CNN her son was hired in February by a private military contracting company.
