LAWRENCE, Massachusetts – Firefighters from several departments responded to a large fire in Lawrence Thursday night.

Fire burned through a 10 unit building at the Shawsheen Court Condominiums.

WCVB reports that the fire began at approximately 8:00 p.m. and had spread quickly through the two story apartment building.

Videos from the scene show the units on fire.

Neighbors had called 911 and went door to door, alerting people inside.

Several nearby fire departments were called to the scene.

“The biggest challenge was the fire had a major head start,” Lawrence Fire Chief Brain Moriarty told CBS Boston.

Fire Chief Moriarty said they had water problems because they don’t have a lot of high volume water in the area so they were forced to lay long lines to fight the fire.

Over a dozen occupants have been displaced.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
