Fire broke out Wednesday at 2:15 p.m. at the First Emmanuel Baptist Church off Dorchester Road in Summerville.
Firefighters had to withdraw from the building when the roof began collapsing and revert to a defensive strategy.
No injuries were reported in the fire, but arson investigators are searching for the cause, WCBD reports.
