Mount Prospect (IL) rescue crews responded at 11:23 p.m. Saturday to a report of a house fire in the 1500 block of Mark Drive, reports arlingtoncardinal.com. The caller reported smoke coming from the garage and a possible fire from a boiler, and the caller also reported there were cats on the second floor.
The fire department response was upgraded to a working fire response by 11:33 p.m. Fire showed from the chimney over the center of the house by about 11:37 p.m., and firefighters in the basement retreated for safety concerns of worsening fire conditions. A few minutes later the fire was showing from a large opening in the roof created by the fire around the chimney.
Firefighters used at least three hand lines and an elevated master stream from Tower 13, the report says. Two hand lines were used from the exterior near the front door to knock back the fire showing from the chimney and roof.
The other hand line was used first in the basement during an interior attack. Firefighters also dragged a hose line into the garage and may have entered the basement with that line.
An extra alarm MABAS Division 1 Box Alarm #1401 was activated by 12:21 a.m. It was struck out by 12:47 a.m.
Crews from Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Des Plaines, Elk Grove Township, Elk Grove Village, Glenview, Hoffman Estates, North Maine, Northbrook, Palatine, Palatine Rural, Schaumburg, and Wheeling arrived at the scene to help.
Damage to the home was significant.
