Tommy BNSF – This fire started at 1:10 PM at the Vanfob and Van Voorst Lumber Company in downtown Union Hill. According to the Kankakee Daily Journal, it started because of a spark from a crane.
My mom and I were running errands in Dwight, and I happened to notice a big smoke cloud to the east so we started heading east, and it turned out to be further than we thought, and when we got into town, we noticed the billowing flames coming out of the buildings.
This is all of the raw footage I shot from about an hour’s worth of the firefighters fighting the fire. Many different departments were here, including Cabery, Salina, Aroma Park, Braidwood, Coal City, Herscher, Reddick, and many others.
Thankfully no one was injured in this fire, but the buildings are obviously a total loss.
