Two-alarm fire in Coal Township

On February 10, 2021 around 0945 hours Coal Township fire departments were alerted to reports of a working fire in the 140-01 area of the township. Local police quickly arrived and confirmed a working fire on division two with several people trapped on the roof and needing a way down.

A second alarm as quickly struck along with addition special calls for manpower and tankers to help fight the blaze. Reports of an explosion early during the fire, had command set up defensive operations for a while. Crew were able to contain the blaze to the main building while surrounding homes only received some heat damage.

Crews were seen entering and fighting the blaze from neighboring side of the half double once part of the fire building collapsed.

Around 3 hours into the fire units were starting to be slowly released from service or standby.

During the blaze one animal was reported transported to Sunbury Animal Hospital. Also during the incident a firefighter was able to remove and extinguish a burning gasoline can from a neighboring shed that was starting to catch fire and extinguish it.

As of now no cause has been determined for the fire.
