Tractor-Trailer Fire Shuts Baltimore Highway Tunnels

A tractor-trailer fire near the southbound tubes of the Fort McHenry Tunnel caused significant disruptions Thursday.

According to WBAL, all southbound tubes of the tunnel were closed, along with one northbound tube, following a crash that led to a fuel leak and intense flames. The fire was reported at about 6:40 a.m.

Crews worked to contain the fire, with plumes of smoke visible at the scene.

The incident caused severe traffic backups stretching to the I-695 Beltway. No one was reported injured in the fire.
