A Fire Boss Single Engine Air Tanker/Scooper crashed in Lake Livingston while responding to wildfires in Polk County on Tuesday.
People nearby when the crash occurred were able to assist the pilot from the wreck. He is expected to be OK.
The Texas A&M Forest Service reported that it had been called to assist in numerous fires, and the plan was in the process of assisting at a fire in Corrigan when the accident happened.
The plane is designed to lower itself onto the surface of a lake and load water through a pontoon while it continues flying. Specifics of the accident are ongoing, though it’s likely the plane was in some stage of taking on water when the crash occured.
The entire fleet of Fire Boss aircraft were temporarily grounded while the cause of the crash is determined, FOX 26 reports.
