Lawmakers have reversed a law that outraged Oklahomans last year when it came to light that a firefighter was punished for transporting a burn victim to the hospital after waiting excessive times for an ambulance
In January of 2021, Oklahoma City Fire Maj. Corey Britt was called to the scene of a toddler with second-degree burns all over her body.
Britt gave up waiting for an ambulance, which were struggling with lengthy delays in those days of COVID-19, and decided to transport 3-year-old Quinn Amme to the hospital in the fire truck.
When the Oklahoma Emergency Medical Services Authority complained, Britt was relieved of his leadership position at his station.
This week, the governor signed a law that would allow firefighters to use their discretion in cases like the Amme case, Oklahoma News 4 reports.
