Police Arrest Suspect in Santa Fe (NM) Chase that Killed Retired Firefighter

A New Mexico woman has been charged in a crash that killed a police officer and retired New Mexico firefighter.

Jeannine Jaramillo, 46, faces charges including two counts of first-degree murder, police said Saturday. Jaramillo led police on a chase that caused a crash on Interstate 25 near Santa Fe that killed Officer Robert Duran, 43, and Frank Lovato, 62. Lovato was a retired firefighter from the northern New Mexico city of Las Vegas who was driving a pickup truck and not involved with the pursuit.

Jaramillo initially said she had been kidnapped and her kidnapper fled the scene of the crash. Police now say that was a lie and that she drove the car herself.
