A Fort Worth Fire Department captain had to bail out of a house fire Sunday night while another captain pushed back flames with an exterior hose.

Upon arrival firefighters found heavy smoke showing from the one-story house and made an interior attack, the department said via Facebook. Photos by Fort Worth Firefighter Peter Matthews documented the escape.

“The room suddenly flashed and flames engulfed the room,” the department said. Quint 16 Captain Brian Alexander had to escape through a front window.

Engine 30 Captain Larry Young noticed the conditions worsening and grabbed a hoseline and began knocking down the flames from the outside so that Alexander could escape.
