HIGH POINT — A person was injured this past weekend in one of three house fires that happened in the southern part of the city, with two occurring on Saturday and another on Monday.
High Point Fire Department crews rescued one person from a fire reported about 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the 1200 block of S. Elm Street. Firefighters arrived to find thick smoke coming from the eaves of the one-story house and a man trying to get out through a kitchen door, Deputy Fire Chief Jayson Valade said.
“They rescued him out the back,” he said. “We were able to assist him out.”
The man was taken to an area medical center for treatment of smoke inhalation and is expected to be all right, Valade told The High Point Enterprise on Monday.
Investigators have determined that the fire was accidental and related to a faulty electrical outlet, Valade said. Damage was estimated at $50,000.
Seven people were displaced in a fire reported at 7:40 a.m. Monday at a house in the 100 block of Giles Street. The call came in about a fire in or near the kitchen area, Valade said.
The occupants escaped the house without injuries, though several pets including dogs died in the blaze, he said. Four adults and three children are they are being assisted by the local chapter of the American Red Cross.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation Monday. Damage was estimated at $100,000, Valade said.
The other fire on Saturday occurred about 4:15 a.m. at a house in the 1900 block of S. Elm. Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire and smoke coming from the rear of the one-story house.
No one was home at the time, Valade said. The cause of the fire remained under investigation Monday, and there wasn’t an estimate yet on damage.
