NORFOLK, Virginia – WAVY reports that Norfolk firefighters faced a significant fire involving a condominium early Thursday morning.

Firefighters responded to a report of a fire at the Lafayette Cove Condominiums on Mayflower Road at approximately 3:00 a.m.

The entire front of the condominium was on fire when firefighters arrived, blocking the exits and stairway for the upper apartments.

Norfolk Assistant Fire Chief Garry Windley told WAVY that two people were injured after jumping from the third floor.

Three other people were treated on the scene for injuries.

Assistant Chief Windley said that the third and second floors have collapsed and that a secondary search for any missing occupants will be delayed.

Windley said a fire wall kept the fire from spreading to additional units in the building.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
