BOSTON, Massachusetts – A mayday was transmitted for an injured firefighter during a three-alarm fire on Monday in the city’s Roxbury neighborhood.

Boston Fire Department Commissioner Jack Dempsey told WCVB that the firefighter was struck by falling bricks when the building’s chimney collapsed.

The firefighter was not seriously hurt but was transported to a hospital by Boston EMS.

Firefighters responded to the scene at the corner of Southwood and Edgewood streets at approximately 5:00 p.m.

Wind helped the fire extend through the three-story and through the roof.

Six adults and four children were able to safely escape.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
