SILVER SPRING, Md. (WUSA9) – One firefighter is in the hospital after he was hurt battling a vacant house fire in Silver Spring Tuesday morning.

Montgomery County firefighters were called to the 9600 block of Lorain Ave. near Brunett Avenue, N Hills Sligo Park for a reported fire around 6 a.m. Arriving crews found flames coming from the home. The home was vacant and under renovation, firefighters said.

Officials with the Montgomery County Fire Department tell WUSA9 two firefighters fell through a floor while battling the blaze. One of those firefighters was taken to the hospital for treatment, but that firefighter’s condition is not known at this time. The second firefighter was not badly hurt, according to the spokesperson

The cause of the fire has not been determined.

Crews remained on scene for hours Tuesday morning getting the fire under control and extinguishing hot spots.
