Magnolia Springs (AL) Firefighter Survives Roof Collapse, Suffers Third-Degree Burns

A Magnolia Springs firefighter suffered burns but escaped more serious injuries when a roof collapsed on him during a fire on Sunday night.

The fire started in a garage and spread to a home on Tempest Drive round 8:30 Sunday night.

Captain Michael Purvis and a fellow firefighter were in the house when the call came to evacuate. At that moment, the trusses gave way on the roof and collapsed on him. The other firefighter was able to get water on Purvis and help extricate him, WALA reports.

Purvis was taken to USA Burn Center and is recovering from burn injuries. No one else was hurt in the fire.
