Hartland (NY) Volunteer Fire Company First Responder Ran Over, Killed by Apparatus

The driver of the apparatus was uninjured.

A Hartland (NY) Volunteer Fire Company first responder has died after being hit by a Barker Fire Department apparatus at the scene of a fire.

Crews were responding to a field fire in Somerset around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday when a Barker Fire Department rescue truck was backing up on Quaker Road. It then hit and ran over a Hartland Volunteer Fire Company member who was acting as a spotter. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the apparatus was uninjured, and the names of all parties involved are not being released yet.

The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
