WheelingsBravest – 6/23/18 Wheeling, WV Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire in South Wheeling at the 4500 blk of Water Street.
Engine 4 arrived with heavy smoke and fire showing from a two-story wood frame.
Companies stretched lines and made an initial aggressive interior attack. They had to briefly pull out, but were then able to re-enter and continue with the aggressive interior attack.
The house was occupied by one man and he escaped without injury.
There was heavy fire on the top floor and Ladder 1 provided vertical ventilation on the roof.
Fire Investigator Unit 90 was on scene and determined the fire started on the first floor, but the cause is still under investigation. The house is presumed to be a total loss.
Engines 4, 2, 5, Ladder 1, Rescue 1, Squads 1 & 2, Duty Chief C-4, Fire Investigator Unit 90, Wheeling PD units, Ohio County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Sheriff and Wheeling’s Bravest Primary Photographer were on the scene. The fire was under control in about 1 hour.
