Firefighting: Newark, OH House Fire

David Decker – Newark Fire Department was dispatched to a report of house fire on April 20th, 2018 at 0613 hours. NFD responded with two engines, two ladders, two medics and a chief officer for a total strength of 17 fire personnel. Heath Fire Department provided mutual-aid, responding with two engines.

The house on fire was a 1-story 1,000 sq. ft. home that was situated behind another house. The house was occupied when the fire started. The single occupant self evacuated prior to arrival of fire units. Suppression efforts where slightly hampered because of power lines down that had fallen down on the front (A-Side) and rear (C-Side) of the burning structure and problems with the hydrant.

NFD stretched a yard lay and initiated attack with a 1 3/4″ attack line. A second 1 3/4″ attack line was attached to the yard lay to assist with suppression. There were no injuries reported.
