Fire Rips Through Boston Buildings

Seven-alarm fire in Southie

sparkywfd – 38 people were displaced and 5 firefighters were hurt as flames spread through 7 buildings in South Boston overnight.

The fire in the 1400 block of Columbia Road South started before 3:30 a.m.

Five homes on Columbia Road were destroyed and two more on Douglas Street were damaged. Officials said the damage was estimated to be about $10 million.

Officials believe the fire started in the rear of the building, but said the exact origin is not yet clear.
