Fire at RI Prison Sends Correctional Officers to Hospital

A fire at the Adult Correctional Institution (ACI) in Cranston left several correctional officers hospitalized.

The fire broke out Tuesday when an inmate reportedly attempted to ignite the synthetic drug K2, sparking a fire in the facility, NBC 10 News reports. The fire forced the evacuation of two housing units and exposed officers to hazardous conditions.

Officials confirmed that one officer suffered chemical exposure from the fire, while three others were treated for potential toxic fume inhalation.

The fire is under investigation.
