F-35 Crashes at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden (UT), Pilot Ejected Safely

An F-35 A Lightning II fighter jet from the U.S. Air Force 388th Fighter Wing crashed at Hill Air Force Base on Wednesday around 6:15 p.m., KSL reports.

The jet crashed at the north end of the Ogden base. The pilot ejected and was recovered safely by emergency crews. Officials say the jet was returning from a training flight when the pilot experienced troubles.

The pilot did their best to avoid populated areas as the plane crashed, finally ejecting in a moment caught on nearby cameras.

The base commander said the jet’s safety systems worked as designed to save the pilot’s life.

Flames from the crash spread over several acres as firefighters were called in to extinguish the fire.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
