Aug. 2—The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information about a human-started fire on Flagstaff Mountain Wednesday night.
According to a release, around 9:42 p.m., a fire was started and extinguished near Panorama Point on Flagstaff Road, just west of Boulder.
An eyewitness video from that night shows people near Panorama Point with fireworks ignited and flames visible, according to the release.
Investigators with the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office are working to identify the individuals involved.
“We will not tolerate this blatant disregard for the life safety of the residents of Boulder County,” said Boulder County Sheriff Curtis Johnson in a statement. “We were under Stage 1 fire restrictions, which prohibits the use of fireworks, with multiple wildfires burning, yet they still recklessly set off fireworks in a grassy and wooded area which immediately caught fire.”
Investigators are interested in speaking with anyone who has information as to who these individuals are or anyone with any information related to the Panorama Point fire.
Additionally investigators are interested in speaking with a person of interest, 26-year-old Alan Khoshaba, who they believe may have information relevant to the investigation. Khoshaba is a resident of Basking Ridge, N.J., and also has ties to Florida, according to the release.
“It’s only because the firefighters were able to quickly get the fire under control that a tragedy didn’t take place,” said Johnson.”
If you have any information about Khoshaba’s whereabouts or information about the individuals in the video, contact the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office at 303-441-4444 or email bcsotips@bouldercounty.gov. When calling, reference case no. 24-03856.
