Defensive operations in
Contra Costa County

East County Today – At 6:50 pm Saturday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District was dispatched to a report of a vegetation fire at Gateway Road and North Stone Road on Bethel Island. While responding, it was reporting that a structure was involved.
FOR CONTEXT – due to size of fire, heat and wind, was not able to get to backside of the fire where firefighters were working to protect two other structures during this defensive fire attack.
Crews arrived on scene to the vegetation fire in which an abandoned restaurant, Franks Cove Restaurant and bar, was involved in an exterior fire that quickly entered into the building. Engine 53 (Oakley) was the only unit on scene at this time and began a defensive fire attack to protect a second building approximately 10-feet away.
As crews arrived on scene, they were able to limit the fire to the restaurant and protect the neighboring two structures from damage, including a vegetation fire that wrapped around the structures.
