20-Plus Southern California Multi-Million Dollar Homes Destroyed by Fires

A wind-driven fire tore through Aliso Wood Canyon between Laguna Niguel and Laguna Beach destroying at least 20 homes Wednesday.

The wildfire started around 3 p.m. as a small brush fire around the water plant at Laguna Niguel, but quickly spread through the coastal neighborhood of multi-million dollar homes. Winds blew embers up to a quarter of a mile, spreading the fire from house to house.

Seventy pieces of apparatus and firefighters from Orange County and San Diego County fought the fire, which spread to 200 acres. Firefighters were on scene over night keeping the fire contained.
