HALTOM CITY, Texas (AP) – A North Texas house fire has claimed the lives of a woman and three children she apparently was baby-sitting.
Haltom City fire-rescue officials on Friday identified the victims as 52-year-old Maritza Garces, 2-month-old Jaime Moran Jr., 3-year-old Jayleen Rayos and 5-year-old Gene Perrera. All were critically injured in a house fire Thursday afternoon in the Fort Worth suburb and died later at hospitals.
Authorities believe the fire started in the living room near a live Christmas tree. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
Fire-rescue spokesman Perry Bynum says officials believe the woman, the girl and the two boys are all related but he had no specifics. Bynum also says the woman apparently was caring for the children. He had no further immediate details.
