AUBURN, N.Y. (AP) – Autopsies are scheduled to determine the cause of death of a 38-year-old woman and 2-year-old girl removed from a burning home in Auburn.
Authorities say a neighbor called 911 around 11 p.m. Saturday to report the smell of smoke and gasoline coming from the home where Rachel Harris-Curione was babysitting Averyana Dale.
Firefighters found the woman and child unresponsive in the living room about 20 feet from the door of the kitchen, where the fire was mostly contained.
The Syracuse Post-Standard reports (http://bit.ly/xtSl1Z ) the woman and child were taken to the hospital, and later pronounced dead.
Authorities say there was smoke and heat damage throughout the first floor of the duplex. The cause is under investigation.
