Woman Charged with Setting Fatal Iowa House Fire

CORALVILLE, Iowa– A Coralville woman who police say set a fire that killed an Iowa City high school student has been charged with first-degree murder.

The Gazette in Cedar Rapids reported (http://bit.ly/sH69Cv ) that 49-year-old Lillie Williams was arrested Wednesday and is being held on $1 million bond.

She appeared in court Thursday morning where she denied the charge, calling it “false information.”

Police say Williams knew people were inside the home when she intentionally set the fire on Sept. 4.

Fourteen-year-old Raymone Bryant died in the fire. Two other people were treated at a hospital and released.

Police say witnesses identified Williams as the person who set the fire.

She will be appointed an attorney, although one has not been named.
