Videos: Fire Destroys Montana Stockyards

BILLINGS, Mont. – A fire has destroyed the Miles City Livestock Commission building.

Flames and black smoke poured from the stockyards on Saturday, which the livestock commission company says is one of the oldest in the region.

The Billings Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1TkvqNc) about 20 firefighters spent two hours extinguishing the flames that completely engulfed the building.

Custer County Fire Chief Bud Peterson says a firefighter was injured and taken to a Billings hospital. The firefighter’s condition is not known.

Peterson says no animals were inside the building and those that were outside were moved to safety.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Peterson says the building was built in the early 1900s and was very old and dry, which caused the flames to spread quickly.

He estimates the damage at more than $1 million.
