Two Injured in Crash with Iowa Fire Truck

Two people were hospitalized Aug. 19 after a collision with a Dubuque Fire Department truck.

Fire truck driver Ronald J. Reinert, 44, of 11 W. 11th St., was attempting to turn left onto Fengler Street from Kerper Boulevard when the traffic light controlling the intersection turned yellow, according to a police report. Reinert attempted to complete his turn, but was struck by a southbound vehicle on Kerper Boulevard as it entered the intersection during a yellow light, the report stated.

The collision sent the second vehicle, driven by Chad M. Parker, 27, of 2635 Rhomberg Ave., rolling down a hill into a parking lot at 2125 Kerper Blvd. The force of impact also pushed the fire truck into a third vehicle that was in a left-turn lane on Fengler Street, according to the report.

Both Parker and Lloyd G. Droessler, 57, of Cuba City, Wis., were hospitalized with non-incapacitating injuries. The accident caused an estimated $20,000 worth of damage to the fire truck. A fourth vehicle that was struck by Parker’s car when it entered the parking lot also was damaged.

Reinert was not injured. The accident report did not list any citations.
