Sparks (NV) Chief to Step Down Following Vote of No Confidence

The Sparks fire chief has decided he will retire when his current contract ends at the end of June rather than seek an additional term in his post.

Chief Jim Reid informed the city manager of his decision in a letter, KRNV reports.

About 85% of the Sparks Firefighters IAFF Local 1265 union approved a vote of ‘no confidence’ in Reid that was submitted to the city council in March.

Firefighters say that Reid has not done enough to tackle problems facing the department that include a staffing shortage, need for a new fire station and a failure to keep pace with the growing Sparks population.
