In the past few years, firefighter suicides have outnumbered line-of-duty deaths. The Firefighter Behavioral Health Alliance (FBHA) estimates only a 50 percent reporting, so we are missing data on our lost brothers and sisters. This webcast involves a careful examination of firefighter and EMT suicides within the fire and EMS services. Emphasis is placed on the educational role the FBHA plays nationally through the use of data and statistics it collects. The class covers understanding emotional and physical stressors, signs and symptoms, suicide data, communication skills, how to create relationships with resources, how to create a behavioral health program, and retirement issues.
