Firefighters quickly doused a two-alarm blaze early Monday morning in southeast Salt Lake City. The four residents of the home escaped unharmed.
Salt Lake City Fire Department spokesman Jasen Asay said crews responding to a 12:41 a.m. 911 call found flames and smoke in the attic of the house at 2254 E. Parley’s Terrace (2400 South). The proximity of other homes nearby prompted issuance of the second alarm, but crews had the fire under control within 20 minutes.
The flames were contained to the attic, but the rest of the home sustained smoke and water damage. Structural damage was estimated at more than $100,000.
Investigators determined the cause of the blaze was accidental, possibly due to an electrical issue.
In all, 35 firefighters fought the fire.
The residents, all adults, were able to arrange other accommodations.
